Frequently Asked Questions

Getting Started

How do I get started with therapy at Early Foundations?

You can reach out through our contact form, call the office, or email us. We will walk you through the next steps, gather basic information, and help you schedule an evaluation that fits your child’s needs.

Do I need a referral?

Some insurance plans require a referral and some do not. If your plan requires one, we will let you know right away so you can request it from your child’s pediatrician.

What happens at the first appointment?

Your first visit is an evaluation. We spend time getting to know your child, learning about your concerns, and assessing speech, language, feeding, or oral-motor skills. At the end, we will talk through recommendations and whether therapy is needed.

Insurance and Payment

Do you take insurance?

Yes. We are in network with Blue Cross Blue Shield, Blue Care Network, Aetna, Priority Health, Cigna, and several smaller insurance plans. If you have questions about a specific plan, just reach out and we can help you look into it.

Do you check my benefits for me?

Yes. We complete a benefits check as a courtesy so you have an idea of what your plan may cover. Insurance can be confusing, and we want you to feel supported and prepared before therapy starts.
Parents are always welcome to double check their benefits directly with the insurance company too. This can help confirm details like deductibles, copays, and whether preauthorization is required.

What will my insurance cover?

Coverage varies based on your plan, deductible, and whether speech, feeding, or myofunctional therapy is considered medically necessary. After we check your benefits, we will explain what your plan says and what you can expect.

Will I know my cost before therapy starts?

Yes. After we verify benefits, we give you an estimate of what sessions may cost. Final amounts depend on how your insurance processes each claim, but we always aim to be as clear and upfront as possible.

Do you offer private pay?

Yes. Some families choose private pay when they prefer not to use insurance or when their plan does not cover therapy. We can walk you through those options.

Therapy Sessions

How long are sessions?

Evaluations are typically 45minutes to an hour. Most treatment sessions are 30 to 45 minutes, depending on your child’s needs and the type of therapy.

How often will my child need therapy?

Frequency depends on the evaluation and your child’s goals. Many children attend once a week. Some may come more often for feeding or myofunctional needs.

Do parents come into the therapy room?

Yes, whenever possible. We love having caregivers involved because it helps with progress and carryover at home. If your child separates better or needs space, we can adjust, but caregiver involvement is always encouraged.

Feeding and Myofunctional Therapy

Do you work with infants?

Yes. We support infants with breast/bottle feeding, coordination, early feeding development, tongue tie concerns, and transitions to first foods.

Do you help with tongue tie releases?

Yes. We provide support before and after a release, including oral-motor prep, post-release exercises, and guidance on feeding or speech changes that may follow.

Do you help with picky eating?

Yes. We use a gentle, child-centered approach that focuses on reducing stress, improving oral skills, and building positive experiences with food.

Do you provide myofunctional therapy?

Yes. We work with children on oral rest posture, breathing patterns, tongue thrust, chewing, and swallowing. We also support families before, during, and after expansion.

Scheduling and Logistics

How do I cancel or reschedule?

You can email, call the office, or reach out directly to your therapist. We ask for 24 hour notice when possible so we can offer the spot to another family. Less than a 24 hour notice does incur a late cancellation fee.

Do you offer after-school appointments?

We try to make a few after-school times available, but they fill quickly. We can put you on a waitlist if you prefer those times.

How long will my child be in therapy?

Every child is different. After the evaluation, your therapist will outline expected progress and review goals regularly with you.

General

Do you work with children with Autism?

Yes. We support communication, play, social interaction, feeding challenges, AAC, GLP, and oral-motor needs for children on the autism spectrum.

Do you offer AAC support?

Yes. We evaluate, model, and support AAC for children who benefit from additional communication tools.

Do you collaborate with other providers?

Absolutely. We communicate with pediatricians, ENTs, dentists, orthodontists, OTs, lactation consultants, and other professionals involved in your child’s care.

Do you offer other services like occupational therapy or physical therapy?

We provide speech therapy, feeding therapy, and pediatric myofunctional therapy. We do not offer occupational therapy or physical therapy at this time.
If your child needs additional services, we are happy to share a list of local providers we trust and have collaborated with in the past. Our goal is to make sure your child receives the right support, even if it is through another practice.
